In 1987, the University of the Punjab awarded Prof. Dr. Sultan Altaf Ali a Ph.D. in Persian Literature for his study of Hazrat Sultan Bahu’s life, Persian works and thought. It grew from research begun in 1958 and became the basis for further publications in Persian and Urdu.

His sustained study began in 1958. The Urdu translation and commentary of Abyat-e-Bahu appeared in 1975, followed by his doctorate in 1987. Alongside this research, he served in Balochistan’s education service for thirty-two years.
